Finally, you are traveling and with Kids and wondering what to carry and what not. Being born and bought up in the Metropolitan City of Mumbai gave me the opportunity to explore a different types of food and different cuisines since childhood.

As a first-time mom, I used to consult my mom, especially during traveling, about what wonderful food I must carry for my kids.

I remembered during my childhood my mom used to carry a variety of food during traveling. Of course, I have added my few items as well which my kids love during traveling.

This is a famous breakfast or snack recipe made with whole wheat flour, some chickpea flour, Fenugreek leaves, and some Indian spices These are easy to make, easy to carry, does not get spoiled, can be stored up to 2 days at room temperature, and can be eaten with chutney, pickle, with Curd, Yogurt, with butter or can be enjoyed plain.

Sukhadi or Gur Papadi or Gol Papadi  – gujarati recipe

Sukhadi or Gur Papadi or Gol Papadi  - gujarati recipe

A healthy snack recipe made with Whole wheat flour, clarified butter ie., Ghee and Jaggery. You can also add in some dry fruits like chopped roasted almonds, chopped dried Coconut, Khus-Khus (Poppy seeds), and saunf(fennel seeds) for that extra crunch or you can keep it plain if your kids prefer it that way. Again, these are easy to make, easy to carry, and can be stored for up to 3 months at room temperature. Well in my house these Gol Papadis are all sold out before a weeks’ time.

Methi Khakhra

Khakhra is a Gujarati recipe which you will find in almost all Gujarati families as a snack. It is crunchy, spicy, tasty, and can be eaten any time of the day. You can enjoy it with a drizzle of ghee on the top of it or make it like masala papad – just replace the papad with the Khakhra or make dry Khakhra Bhel and it tastes amazing. Khakhra is made of whole wheat, salt, Math flour, and some spices.

This one is the easiest recipe that you can prepare and carry while traveling. We also call it Jhal Muri in Bengali. You just need some puffed rice, some nuts, boiled potatoes, some spices and fried Sev i.e., Bengal gram.

Home made cerelac is a dry porridge powder that is made with some lentils, dry fruits, Elichi and gur which is optional. This Homemade cerelac powder is very nutritious, healthy, and keeps your baby full for a long time. Carry this homemade cerelac powder while traveling, you just need hot water and your porridge will be ready in minutes.

Makhana or foxnuts

Makhana or foxnuts are super delicious and super nutritious nuts. They are easy to make with butter or with some spice, high in fiber and hence easy to digest to the small stomach of your kids. If you are traveling with an infant, you can make Makhana porridge, just need some hot water and honey for sweetness and your Foxnut porridge is ready.
